Diecast Collector is a British magazine dedicated to the hobby of collecting diecast metal vehicles.[2][3] Published monthly, it is a thick, glossy magazine featuring a variety of articles on toy and model cars, trucks, and buses, and aircraft. Beyond information on the collectables themselves, the magazine is also a source of hobby information such as auction results, collectors' fairs schedules, specialized dealer information, etc.[4]

The magazine was founded and edited by Mike Forbes,[6] a well-known collector who formerly edited trucking magazines. Regular contributors have included Malcolm Bates, Mike Pigott, Horace Dunkley, and Andrew Ralston. Popular columns include the Matchbox "Models of Yesteryear" series by Horace Dunkley, the amusing 'Drive-Past' column by Brian Gower, and regular features on Hot Wheels, Matchbox Superfast and character toys by Mike Pigott. Every issue includes up-to-date news on the model industry, plus reviews of the latest diecast and white metal releases.

Diecast series covered in the magazine include Matchbox, Corgi, Dinky, Hot Wheels, Lone Star Toys, Norev, Ixo, Kenner, Exclusive First Editions, and Johnny Lightning. Articles based on TV, film and comic book character have included Batman, Spider-Man, Looney Tunes, Star Trek, The Magic Roundabout, James Bond, The Simpsons and The Green Hornet.

In 2010, Forbes was replaced as editor by Denise Burrows, who also edited companion magazine Collectors' Gazette. Rick Wilson was editor from July 2013 to January 2016, being replaced by Tim Morgan later that year. Rick Wilson returned as editor in September 2018, a position he still holds. During his second stint, Wilson authored and edited the specialist Fast and Fifty publication, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Matchbox Superfast.

In the January 2006 edition, a special offer was included in the magazine offering a model Oxford Mini Van from Oxford Diecast for 1 to cover postage. Demand exceeded the five thousand pieces that were originally produced and an additional one thousand models had to be made to be shipped several months later.[9]

A slightly-high-riding, five-door fastback, the Polestar 2 arrived in UK showrooms in 2020 with its flagship dual-motor model, complete with all-wheel-drive and a brawny 402bhp. This was joined in 2021 with a more sedate but still-impressive single-motor, front-wheel-drive variant, offered with small and large battery pack sizes.

Aside from the large stripe and unique Battleship Gray satin wrap (both optional), the BST Edition 270 gets a lowered ride height (-25mm), as well as a front strut bar (for greater stiffness) and unique 21-inch black alloys inspired by those on the Polestar 1. In addition, the Ohlins dampers differ from those fitted to the Performance Pack model in a number of ways.

In almost all cases, the years listed below are expected calendar years for the start of production, not still-indeterminate model years. Estimated prices where announced do not include destination charges except where noted, and they exclude any potential federal tax credits, which currently total $7,500 for most all-electric vehicles except those from Tesla and GM (both automakers have exceeded the sales quotas on which tax credits are allowed). Note, however, that the federal tax credit could change; current proposals include raising the sales limit to restore it for GM and Tesla, raising the total credit amount or limiting the vehicle prices to qualify.

An Audi A6 E-Tron concept was unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2021, and it is expected to enter production by late 2022. Details are limited, but Audi says the A6 E-Tron will be the first vehicle on a new modular electric platform developed with Porsche that will underpin a variety of cars and SUVs. (Porsche and Audi are both under the Volkswagen Group.) The concept features AWD with two motors that put out a combined 469 horsepower, and Audi says range could exceed 400 miles.

This luxury SUV from Faraday Future, a California startup with Chinese connections, recently raised capital that the company says will fund a start of production at its Golden State plant. It says the initial run of 300 FF 91 Futurist Alliance Editions is sold out. The FF 91 Futurist Alliance Edition, a limited-edition flagship model, is reportedly priced above $200,000, though exact pricing has not yet been announced. Two versions of the FF 91, as well as two higher-volume, lower-priced models called the FF 81 and FF 71, will follow through the 2025 calendar year. The FF 91 features a high-end interior, a three-motor drive system putting out 1,050 hp, a claimed 0-60 mph time as low as 2.4 seconds and a promised full load of advanced technology and connectivity.

Ford says the all-electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup will range from $40,000 to $90,000. A prototype currently on tour shows a traditional F-150 look with a 5.5-foot bed, as well as more futuristic lighting and other details. Ford estimates a 300-mile range for the top model with its two-motor AWD system, but it also plans a more basic 230-mile version. Capabilities include compatibility with 150-kW DC fast charging and respective payload and towing capacities of up to 2,000 and 10,000 pounds.

In model year 2021, the average estimated real-world CO2 emission rate for all new vehicles fell by 2 g/mi to 347 g/mi, the lowest ever measured. Real-world fuel economy remained at a record high 25.4 mpg.

Since model year 2004, CO2 emissions have decreased 25%, or 114 g/mi, and fuel economy has increased 32%, or 6.1 mpg. Over that time, CO2 emissions have improved in fourteen of seventeen years. The trends in CO2 emissions and fuel economy since 1975 are shown in Figure ES-1.

Preliminary data suggest that CO2 emissions and fuel economy in model year 2022 will improve from the levels achieved in 2021. These data are shown in Figure ES-1 as a dot because the values are based on manufacturer projections rather than final data.

In this report, vehicles are disaggregated into five vehicle types: sedan/wagon, car SUV, truck SUV, pickup truck, and minivan/van. The distinction between car and truck SUVs is based on regulatory definitions where SUVs that are 4WD or above a weight threshold (6,000 pounds gross vehicle weight) are generally regulated as trucks and classified at truck SUVs for this report. The remaining 2WD SUVs are subject to car standards and classified as car SUVs. All five vehicle types are at record high fuel economy and record low CO2 emissions in model year 2021. Minivan/Vans increased fuel economy by 3.9 mpg, car SUVs increased by 2.6 mpg, sedan/wagons increased by 0.5 mpg, truck SUVs increased by 0.3 mpg, and pickups increased by 0.1 mpg.

The overall new vehicle market continues to move away from the sedan/wagon vehicle type towards a combination of truck SUVs, pickups, and car SUVs. In model year 2021, sedans and wagons fell to 26% of the market, well below the 50% market share they held as recently as model year 2013, and far below the 80% market share they held in 1975. Conversely, truck SUVs reached a record 45% of the market in model year 2021, and pickups increased to 16% market share. The trend away from sedan/wagons, which remain the vehicle type with the highest fuel economy and lowest CO2 emissions, and towards vehicle types with lower fuel economy and higher CO2 emissions has offset some of the fleetwide benefits that otherwise would have been achieved from the improvements within each vehicle type.

In the two decades prior to 2004, technology innovation and market trends generally resulted in increased vehicle power and weight (due to increasing vehicle size and content) while average new vehicle fuel economy steadily decreased and CO2 emissions correspondingly increased. Since model year 2004, the combination of technology innovation and market trends have resulted in average new vehicle fuel economy increasing 32%, horsepower increasing 20%, and weight increasing 4%. Footprint has increased 5% since EPA began tracking it in model year 2008. These metrics are all at record highs and are projected to increase again in model year 2022, as shown in Figure ES-3. 2ff7e9595c
