Widely considered BioWare's Magnum Opus of RPGs, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic still manages to prove itself a classic even in 2022, a full 19 years after its initial release. In the game, players take on the role of Revan, a former dark lord rehabilitated by the Jedi Order 4,000 years before the events of A New Hope. The player's choices account for Revan's alignment as either on the dark or light side of the Force. Because the game came out in 2003, many players in the modding community have taken it upon themselves to remaster aspects of the game through mods and cosmetic updates.

Mods can and have extended the shelf life of an older game like Knights of the Old Republic, and while there is a KOTOR remaster on the way and since Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker acknowledged Revan as a canon character, players may find the game worth revisiting. There have also been talks of a live-action film based on the game. Here are some of the best mods for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic to keep the game feeling new even in 2022.
The best mods for Knights of the Old Republic either add new content or update existing content. Modders are still updating their mods in 2020, and many of those with recent updates appear on this list. Here are five of the best mods to get for the game.
One player got creative with their modding and produced a fan-made expansion pack for the game. Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon's Revenge is an entirely fan-made expansion pack by Silveredge9 that takes players on a new adventure within Knights of the Old Republic. The mod features a new 8-hour campaign with professional voice acting and new items and areas. For the feat of creating a custom expansion pack, it belongs on this list, but it is also one of the highest-rated mods available for the game.
Many Knights of the Old Republic mods try to adjust the effects in the game from low-resolution to something more stunning that modern audiences can enjoy. The High-Quality Stars and Nebulas mod by Kexikus improves the resolution of the galaxies that serve as backdrops during much of the game. It is a simple way to begin remastering a classic.
Installing mods for Knights of the Old Republic is fairly simple, and some mods do work on the mobile version of the game. There are three kinds of mods players can install: Loose File mods, which do not have an executable; Self-installing mods, which come with the TSLPatcher file and will install mods automatically; and Non-override mods, which are loose file mods that do not go in the game's Overrides folder. To install mods on PC:
Players should always be careful when adding mods to their games, as some mods can lead to bugs or crashes. Additionally, for mods installed using the TSLPatcher, players must install them in the correct order, which is usually listed in the ReadMe file, or some mods simply will not work and, in some cases, may break the game.
The game is praised by fans as one of the finest Star Wars games ever made, with an amazing world and a compelling story that propels it to near-stratospheric levels of brilliance. Of course, the game has aged quite a bit, and new fans who want to get into this title might find themselves struggling to enjoy it at times. Thankfully, the following gameplay mods should be varied and engaging enough to keep people interested in this title to the very end.
Star Wars has enjoyed its fair share of success in the video game department as well, with most people considering Knights of the Old Republic to be one of the very best in the series. The game features memorable characters, a great story, and one of the greatest plot twists in video game history. Playing this game in modern times might be a chore, but the following best mods for KOTOR will ensure that the gameplay side of things is smoothed out considerably.
However, this doesn't need to be the case, and players can actually activate an easier version of this minigame with mods instead of just ignoring it outright. It's not the most necessary mod in the world but does wonders for players who want to immerse themselves in all the systems of Knights of the Old Republic without any major caveats.
One of the most popular mods for Knights of the Old Republic is a fan expansion pack that features a ton of work and effort. Brotherhood of Shadow is a testament to what modders can accomplish when they're really passionate about their project.
this tutorial should show you how to install mods and KotOR Ultimate to your KotOR game on either Stand-alone-game, the Steam-version and on Linux-based systems(will follow later). Most mods are packed into archives and have to be installed manual, but some even come with an installer, here you normally just have to choose the right folder to install them.
Mods that come with installers:1. Some installers directly look where your game is installed and will make it completely alone.2. IF NOT: You just have to look where your game is located on your harddrive(normally its something like :"C:\program files\lucas arts\star wars knights of the old republic\" or something similar)3.(STEAM)if you play with steam your game normally is located in a foler something like this: "C:\program files\Steam\steamapps\common\swkotor"
Steam-version:(almost same as stand-alone, the game is just located in another folder)1. Unpack the mod you downloaded where ever you want.2. Inside the unpacked folder there will be either the modded files or another folder that maybe called "override"3. Copy the whole content of the folder or the complete "override" folder.4. In this Case the game normally is located here: "C:\program files\Steam\steamapps\common\swkotor\"5. Look up if theres a folder called "override". If not either paste the copied override folder or create a new one and paste the copied files into the the override folder.6. Everythings done, start your game and enjoy the mod!
I put several mod's contents into the override folder in my kotor files, but none of them have changed the game at all. I don't know what I could've done wrong but this is getting stressful and any help would be appreciated. I downloaded TSL from Steam if that matters, but from what Ive read it doesn't seem to make much difference.
So with this mod specifically do I set the installer to go to the swkotor main folder or into its override folder? Because so far I don't think I've seen any new textures. I'm playing on Steam if that helps.
Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic (KOTOR) and its sequel are two of the greatest RPGs ever made, thanks to a fantastic story, engaging characters, and exciting gameplay. Best of all, we can play these games on our phones and tablets, earning them a firm spot in our roundup of the best RPGs for Android. Even better, you can install mods for the Android version of KOTOR just like on PC.
Why would you want to install mods? Although many would argue that these games have aged like fine wine, there's no denying that they look and feel their age. Mods won't make the game look like something from the last five years, but improved textures and character models make the game feel fresh. Many fans have created new weapons, armor, quest lines, and even planets to explore.
The first thing you'll need is a files app. Our app of choice is Solid Explorer, but alternatives like ES File Explorer will work fine. The built-in files apps from Google and Samsung won't cut it as they don't provide access to the folders we need. Once you have your files app, you'll need to grant it some permissions before you can install any mods:
With that out of the way, it's time to download some mods. They're available from many different places, but we recommend Nexus Mods. It's been around for a long time and has become the default platform for discovering mods.
Each mod will provide instructions on how to install it and whether or not other mods are required for them to run. Just note that if it offers automatic installation, you'll need to ignore that and use the manual method. The instructions for installing each mod will differ based on what it does, so you'll be sorting through several folders in the game's directory. I recommend backing up your saves before installing anything to be safe. We'll use the file directory "com.aspyr.swkotor," which corresponds to the first game for this tutorial. For the second game, look for the "com.aspyr.swkotorii" directory. The instructions for backing up your saves are the same for both games.
As we said before, the method for installing each mod will vary based on what it does. Some will require pasting files into existing folders, and others will have you creating entirely new folders in the game's directory. Make sure you read the mod's instructions, and everything will be fine. For this demonstration, we'll be installing the Recovered Content mod for Kotor 2. While we prefer Nexus Mods, the version needed here is only available from Deadly Stream as it had to be tweaked to function on mobile. Unlike most mods, this one will require you to start the game again to use it.
So long as you follow the instructions provided with each mod and put the files exactly where they're supposed to go, you shouldn't have any problems modding Knights of the Old Republic 1 or 2. These mods breathe new life into these old games and are a testament to the community that continues to love them after all these years.
Modding games on Android is far more complex than on PC, but there are still plenty of games to mod on Android. Once you've explored the content added by these fantastic KOTOR mods, try modding a different Android game. And don't forget to pick up one of Android's best controllers if you require tactile controls for your Star Wars adventures.
I very recently purchased Crossover. I tried the trial version in order to install some mods on my Mac version of KOTOR1 on Steam and it worked perfectly. Decided to buy the full version of the product. Got the Windows version of Steam installed, purchased KOTOR2, tested it out, works perfectly. Awesome. 2ff7e9595c
