When I print the same image to my very old Epson Stylus Color (yes, without anything behind "Color", it's the first color printer Epson ever made), the colors come out right. But this printer can't print on glossy photo paper and can't produce the high quality prints the 1290 normally can.

Also, what are your settings. What software are you printing from. The most common casue of strange colors can be double profiling. This is where you tell photoshop or some other program to control your color output and then on top of that you allow your printer driver to also control color output. You can only allow one or the other to control your output color. The results are usually a mess.
